Maintaining Balance

I lived in London from February 2001 to December 2019 and I took up photography shortly after arriving in the city. My main photographic interests were portrait and street photography. As a result, my camera lenses were all fixed primes suited to those genres (that is, 35mm 50mm and 85mm).

Now I live in Australia – rather unexpectedly due to Covid (but that’s a story for another day) – and I am surrounded by wonderful landscapes and a whole new range of flora and fauna. However, my prime lenses are not ideally suited to this genre of photography.

I recently managed to buy a very reasonably priced second-hand telezoom lens from eBay which arrived in superb condition. It allows me to get a much closer view of wildlife than any of my fixed lenses would allow, and it has helped to re-ignite my passion for taking photos.

So, after three years of big change and upheaval, I feel as though I’m finally finding my balance again. I’ve neglected my photoblog for a long time, but I’m hoping to start posting regularly again now.

Dream state

Pink

I had a very unsettled sleep last night, where I drifted in and out of strange, abstract dreams. Dreams I couldn’t quite focus on and couldn’t quite grasp. (Maybe watching Season 2 of The OA before bed wasn’t such a good idea!)

I took this photo in the garden today. The very selective focus of this shot, where the main elements of the flower feel just out of grasp, resonated with me.
